This mid to late 1960s couture ensemble was made by sophisticated Parisian atelier Guy Laroche. Composed of a skirt and three-quarter length sleeved top, it is crafted from luxurious pale champagne coloured silk which holds its shape. The ankle-length skirt is cut straight with select gathering at the waist which forms a gentle, elongated column silhouette. Two zips secure the front or the back if you prefer and mirror the panelled construction. The top is hand-beaded all-over with vibrant tangerine orange rocailles and glittering gold bugle beads; the cuffs and hem are finished with a fringe formed from loops of the orange rocailles. The top fastens at the back of the neck with a zip and hook-and-eye fastening. Both the skirt and top are unlined. Despite the top having a “Guy Laroche Boutique” label, the ensemble is constructed to the Atelier's' haute couture standards - there is no machine finishing on it.
This incredible ensemble is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note and is worthy of museum acquisition. There were a few bead loops missing but we have reworked the fringed hem so that this cannot be noticed. She displays beautifully and is wearable with care. Like many couture pieces, neither the skirt or top have a composition or size label so please check our measurements closely below. The top and skirt have no stretch to them. Our model is a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this was a good fit on her.
